Because Joe and Karen public have this vision that black miiltary looking gun is scary but Grandpas hunting rifle with a wood stock is old fashion, grandpa was always so warm and friendly! Meanwhile grandpas hunting rifle is chambered in .303 .308 or 30-06.... It's always reported like that though. Every single time without fail. " MORE DEADLY RATE OF FIRE WITH BULLETS MEANT TO KILL FASTER" I wanted to buy a shitty plastic MK22 or GSG in .22LR awhile ago and my wife/ her family was like "But thats a machine gun to kill people with" Ended up getting a bolt action rifle instead.

We and by we I mean gun group friends were arguing about the classic getting shot with a .22 or hunting round. My friends wife is a Surgeon, she said "You don't want to get shot by anything" She treats lots of hunting related accidents and has worked in warzones pulling out 5.56 FMJ. Nope, shot placement and velocity is the key. Velocity makes a projectile disintegrate upon impact, think of the faster you hit water more it feels like a brick. FMJ bullet travels faster than mach 3 have fragmentation effect on impact on soft tissue plus cavitation damage. Slower projectile like handgun bullet will poke a hole, unless its hollowpoint. Patrol officer wear body armor that protect handgun bullets, a rifle round faster than mach 2, will go through like nothing. ERT wear plate carrier with level 3 and above, offer rifle round protection but they are heavy,

Here’s a message from a friend who patrols in NS. It’s direct, but you’ll get the gist.
“Got dressed as RCMP with shit he found online, took his personnal marked pc that he made himself Went to his ex's place Forced her and new boyfriend out the house and tied them to a tree, executed them. Kids ran to the neighboor, neighboor got out to see, executed him Unclear what house he set on fire but probably both houses
Then hit the road, pulled people over with his marked pc and executed the drivers
Went accross our member on the highway, shot her once, dragged her out of her car, executed her, burned his own car and stole her gear and her car and kept on the "joyride" then ditched our member's car and ran off in another vehicle”.

“The guy went on a rampage last night through cottage country there burning houses and executing people. Executed a mom and dad in front of their children.
Burned his own house. Got in to his PC he had made at home. Drove around pulling people over and executing them.
Heidi Stevenson rams him on highway. He shoots her in the chest. Pulls her out and executes her point blank. Takes her Smith, mags and her car. Burns his car.
Ert shows up and drags her back. Leave her with gd. That’s the video that was out there.
Shoots Chad Morrison at some point. Current status is he’s alive to the best of ERT’s knowledge.
Burns heidi’s car and gets in to another vehicule. Civilian reports it. Rat actually pulls up while guys are getting gas at one station and leaves. They don’t put it together until later. The description and photos they had didn’t match him at that point.
Rat goes to another gas station and is filling up. Pds and ERT members show up. Pds ID’s him. They challenge him. He has smith out. Eats 10ish rounds.
10 plus people dead maybe more. Apparently the members were going from house to house just finding bodies. “

It's no such much the rate of fire as velocity in this case. 223/556 is hella fast. It may tumble or shatter in pieces upon impact. This may create disproportionately larger internal wounds than one big solid round staying whole and going clean through. That doesn't make it "more poweful", it's more of a side effect that may occur.
Rate of fire/ control of the weapon while firing was one of the criterias for the military but it is sort of moot for civilian weapons. In Canada, guns only fire as fast as your trigger finger.
Part of the appeal of smaller cartridges is ammunition capacity. With smaller rounds, you can carry more of them. You don't need to be as effective of a shooter when you've got "30" attempts at hitting your target. (Officially, you'd be limited to 5, but with someone as motivated as this numbnuts, a rivet wouldn't make much of an obstacle to overcome.)
Once again, I've seen nothing to suggest that this or a similar weapon was used.

A knife can be deadlier, concealed no one knows, its silent. And cut placement can just as deadly as bullets. Oh, and you have unlimited round with a knife.
