RHD cars?

I'm looking to buy a 2nd gen MR2 and a few of the clean ones that I have my eye on are right hand drive... what's the deal with them? are they expensive to insure or register, and should I stay away from them?

Ça me coûte 400$/an environ assuré d'un seul bord, y'a peu d'assureurs rhd donc pouvoir de négociation limité.

Asking on MR, you're going to be told it's the worst thing you can do. and that you're going to look like a ti-coune.

The reality is you're going to get a better maintained, likely more powerful car for a cheaper price, as long as you shop for a decent one that wasn't beaten to the ground.

As Broody said, insurance is a little trickier, but if you're not 18 and have a good driving record, you won't be paying as much as with a Porsche. Make sure the one you're looking at has been plated in the last 12 months or it will require an inspection...SAAQ approved garages no longer inspect RHD cars, so you'll be out of luck to get it back on the road.

i was paying 800 a year with lareau for my rhd mr2. 0 accidents and 0 tickets.
one of the reasons i sold it.

otherwiser its an amazing go-kart like car even if it doesn't have huge power

Last year I switched from Lareau to Intact (with groupe Lessard I think) and saved 150$/year.

Perfect, just the answers I wanted. For sure going to get one though, besides the Testarossa and Diablo (which are both out of my league), it's my childhood dream car. Whenever I roll up an MR2 at a red light I really envy whoever is driving it lol. I'm going to find one unmodified/unti-couned if possible, and of course low kms and never winter driven. could take a while though since I'm extremely picky and "OCD", but we have another month or so till the snows gone so that's good.

Good luck ! Fun car to drive !

i hope you have a good file and werent dumb and stupid like i was cuz now my skyline cost me 780$/month to insure ... hope you get that mr2 of yours :)

So worth it to get a JDM one as long as its in great working order & well maintained. The japanese version got so many goodies we never got in NA, and prices are only lower due to many people not liking to drive on the wrong side...

You sure you wanna get into the whole rhd business? It will be the reason why you would wanna get rid of your child dream car in near future.

I say try to find a clean one from the state and swap wtv with jdm counter parts. You will appreciate it more imo.
