where should I go to get a new board ? I'm a beginer. What should I look for ? what style, brand etc.... thanks !

There are so many good boards out there these days that you cant go wrong with any major name out there. With that said, your height, weight, shoe size are all good starts to finding the right length and width for you. The next step is knowing what you want to ride. Todays boards are very capable and will take you from the beginer transition to the intermediate level. If you are looking just to cruise, want to learn the park or have no idea and just want it all will help you pick the right style of board for you.

Most people looking to start riding just want an all mountain board. Something that will allow you to cruise, start to be more agressive as you start to get better and ride harder and allow you to get in the park should you be comfortable enough a year or two down the road.

Best bet is to go in some shops, see what they say, take a look at what they have and you can always go on line to compare prices after you get a few ideas of the brand and style that suits your needs and price range.

I bought my kit (board, boots, bindings) all for 200$ + tax at Oberson in the beginning of the season... The brand is Quantum (a brand that they were liquidating cuz it don't exist anymore) but the salesman told me it's a very good board for beginners, and it is... i went 3 times so far and everything's good + the board is not ugly either lol

go to Obsession on St. Laurent...hands down best service of any board shop in MTL... no attitudes at all, very helpful for anyone from begginer to vet and they won't upsell you. Owner is right there on the floor most of the time, and Chris is very helpful too.

Obsession à Laval, ils connaissent leur affaire.

I got a Burton Custom X ... been loving it for 4 years now.

He's a begginer and you are recommending a custom X? Are you serious or are you just bragging here?

Custom X is overrated anyway. Hammer boards for the mother****ing win.

lol at people saying the burton custom....its an advanced board....far from a beginner board...

so it just goes to show how much you know nothing about boarding if your recomending a custom

come to ronjon surf shop in dix30 on the weekend and ask for me (patrick) and ill show you around

I,ll see you saturday, thanks patrick !

btw for the rest of you, I weigh 165, 5'7 tall and wear size 10 shoes.

I'm looking for sometihng that can do it all, not be the best, but do it all. I dont wanna spend an arm and a leg, maybe 600 for everything ..? (everything being boots bindings and board)

I'll need to buy my GF gear aswell

Bragging about what???

I was sort of a noob when I got it, it didn't strike me as a difficult board to ride ... as a matter of fact it was a lot more fun and forgiving than my previous crappy one, it made me want to ride more and more.

It's really great everywhere and only sucks in the powder because of my setup.

I did cringe a bit when I bought it, but I keep my stuff for quite some time, so I guess it makes it worth it in the end.

Flow bindings rule too. It takes forever to set them up perfectly ... but after that it's clic-clic. I don't even stop coming off the chairlift ... I think they're priced similarly to other bindings too.

-Burton board ( good warrenty and customer service)
-Flux Bindings (comfiest bindings out there)
-32 boots (warm as shit and the best boots ive ever owned)

dont spend to much on a board you wont really notice the difference between a 300$ snowboard or a 1000$ board if your just startin out. your basicly just paying for bragging rights, the special featured a more expensive board offers wont really matter your not going to worry about havein a board with more flex or better edge controle when your fallin on your face:D

your better off investing in good boots cause its no fun when you cant feel your feet!
And as for your bindings look for something with nice thick straps and metal cranks, toe cap straps are worth the money aswell

the only problem with a burton board is they use a 3 hole bolt pattern where as most boards use a 4 bolt pattern, most bindings are made with the 4bolt pattern base plate so your going to need to buy a 3hole bolt pattern base plate if your buyin non burton bindings... but there pretty cheap only about 20$ for the set so its well worth it.

p.s. dont buy any kind of step in bindings there pretty useless, theres no point in being the first guy with his bindings on then waiting for the rest of ur ridin crew 2 strap up
