What exactly constitutes driving stoned? How will they test and enforce it?

It's a simple saliva swab...

No, I don't smoke while driving. I'm just curious and I want to see the new laws implemented in a logical way. This has the potential to become a massive clusterfuck. A blood test is pointless. Is a saliva swab more accurate in determining whether or not the driver is currently under the influence?
This happened to me a few years back, and it still bothers me to this day as the entire incident was completely unprofessional and unacceptable IMO. I was visiting a friend in Squamish, BC. I was driving him down to see his girlfriend in Vancouver and we hit a check stop on Highway 99. The cop asked me if I had consumed any alcohol, I said no. He asked me to pull over into secondary inspection or whatever you want to call it. He told me he smelled alcohol on my breath and asked me again when the last time I had a drink was. I told him I didn't know, it had been months. He asked me to blow into the breathalyzer. No problem, I blew 0.00.
Unsatisfied with the results, the cop then asked me when the last time I smoked pot was as he claimed to smell pot on my breath. Wait now, a minute ago you smelled alcohol, now it's pot? Like an idiot, I told him that I had shared a joint with a couple friends that morning, around 9 or 10. It was ~2pm at this point. "So, you're under the influence, then?". I said no, absolutely not, it's no different than if I had consumed a beer 4 or 5 hours ago. He said "It's not the same thing, we have no way to measure it. You are under the influence".
My friend and I were placed in cuffs, my car was impounded and my license suspended for 24 hours. It was a Saturday. I got my car back Sunday afternoon, drove all night back to Calgary and went straight to work with no sleep. I fail to see how this type of policing benefits anyone.
AsunaMAXXX, do you think a 6 month suspension and $10,000 fine would have been fair?
