Winter Tires With Pictogram Now Obligatory

As you know, on December 15th, you need to have installed your winter tires. What you might not be aware of is yet another new law this year which requires the tire to have a pictogram indicating it has been certified for use in winter.

“A winter tire with a pictogram has been designed for winter and has been tested to meet Transport Canada norms” said Quebec transport minister Mario Saint-Pierre in 2013.

Don’t worry though, as long as your tire aren’t that old, they should have the pictogram. Manufacturers began using the symbol about a decade ago.

If you don’t have a pictogram on your tires this winter, you could be susceptible to a $200-$300 fine. The 4.5 million vehicles on the road in Quebec have been mandated to have winter tires between December 15th and March 15th since 2008.
