Our partners at Dynamique Auto just released photos of a spectacular build they completed for Red Bull. Read the press release and view the photos below.
August 19, 2015 – Our team at Dynamique Auto Son – Performance has been servicing the Red Bull Sugga Special events vehicle for a couple of years now. We take care of all of the mechanical, electrical, audio, video and any other issues that may need to be repaired or serviced.
When The Red Bull Representative spoke to me about the soap box races downtown at Victoria Square on September 6th and explained that they were looking for some creative ideas for a ceremonial opening vehicle, I had an aha moment. Why not build an identical Red Bull Demo truck, but in miniature size? I pitched the idea to Red Bull and they loved it and asked me to build it.
The frame is all rectangular 1X3 steel tubes, the front steering system assembly, such as the upper and lower tables as well as the steering mechanism, is all hand fabricated. We used tie rods and ball joints from a Mazda 3 to ensure the steering mechanism would work properly, thus enabling us to align the front wheels which guarantee no resistance going down the ramp at the race.
The rear axle incorporates a hydraulic braking system. We used a brake master cylinder and a brake pedal out of an Acura 1.6EL. The brake pedal assembly had to be shortened by 6” and the master cylinder shaft had to be custom machined to ensure a firm pedal.
The body was the most challenging part of the build. Our team of fabricators spent over 350 hours bending the steel, welding and fabricating all of the panels for the doors, hood, bumper, fenders, the 2 quarter panels and the trunk. The front grill, which consists of 43 separate pieces, were individually cut and assembled to complete the front end of the vehicle. Once the steel fabrication was all done, we used fibreglass to mold and contour the final shape of the body.
On the inside of the vehicle, we installed an RCI racing seat, a Takata 4 point racing harness and a Nardi Personal steering wheel. We reupholstered the complete interior in carbon fiber material just to make everything pretty.
A Clarion sound system completed the interior of the Mini Sugga. We installed a set of 6 x 9 midrange speakers, a 4 Channel Amplifier and a 12” subwoofer in a custom made enclosure. The mini Sugga can be plugged into the Big Sugga to get its electrical and audio connections so when both the vehicles attend shows, they play the music in unison. The 2 vehicles are connected together using an electrical quick connect plug out of a fork lift.
The vehicle was painted it Satin Black to match the paint of the Big Sugga.
To complete the outside of the vehicle, on both the left and right front doors, Red Bull Logos were laid onto Plexiglas forms and were installed onto the doors with a ¾ ” gap to create a “floating” effect. These Re bull logos are backlit using red LED’s. Functional headlights and rear LED brake lights were also installed.
The completed vehicle took over 550 hours to finish. I am very proud of our custom fabrication team, they worked late hours and weekends in order to get this vehicle built by the deadline.
Thank you for all of your hard work and effort.
