Any bikers here? (speed bikes)

Never rode a speedbike in my life but I'm interested in picking one up. I never knew how cheap they were it's a joke, I mean a few grand gets you a brand new bike.
I want something that I won't kill myself on, example a heavy 900cc bike that does 10s on the quarter mile. Also don't want anything slow like a honda cbr250...

The fuck should I be looking at?

≈600cc

Newer bikes = moar powerz and tech

Older bikes = subjectively slower and mostly carbs in the 90's

To have a sporty bike with regular plates look @ sv650

Don't forget equipment! Helmet jacket boots and gloves at least, you can ride with only an helmet but good luck when you fall!

Thanks I'll check it out. and yeah I'll definitely have some nice equipment to go with whatever bike I get, I'm not down to die. The only thing that concerns me is other drivers on the road hitting me because they didn't check their blindspots, or people tailgating me lol.

As for MPG goes aren't bikes really good for that? I've got a 2012 Jetta TDI daily and can get about 1000kms on a tank and costs $65 to fill, would I save a significant amount of money by driving a bike to work everyday instead?

Depends how you ride!

My zx-10r sometimes I do 180-200km on ≈18 liters and sometimes it's 130km :p

But it'll most certainly be cheaper on gas!

As for the other drivers on the road, picture yourself being always invisible and never ever assume the other drivers saw you, it should help

I really want to, but no joke I'm scared. Also I feel like no car would ever be fun ever again :(

So 1 tank is 180kms? and will do, haha

A car will mostly become useful and therefore you'll be happy with a cheaper vehicle and your summer toy will be immensely enjoyable :D

Seriously though, (winter + awd) + summer bike.

SV650s

Huge torque and good clean horsepower makes for a fun bike at legal speeds and beyond.

Don't worry cars are fun in a different way. But it's true. Don;t hop in a car right after a ride because the car will feel slow and gay

When I try to keep with bigger bikes, I average 8l/100 with my 250 :(. You would probably save gas only with a ninja250 if you comapre with your tdi. Otherwise, I never drove a big bike. When I drove a GS500 for my exam, it felt like a torque monster compared to lawnmower.

x2. If you drive a car right after it feels so numb it's incredible, but the day after you forgot and the car feels ok.

So you would refuse to sleep with a 10/10 chick because after regular girls would not be so good?

I have a stock 600. I can follow pretty much any bike, and as of today, never did more than 7L/100

A drz 400s is super slow but does 4-5l/100km, costs 320$ for plates, super cheap to insure and you can basically create your road since it's dual sport :)

Ditch the 250 when you're comfortable with it bro, an SV650 is THE all purpose bike.

Easy to ride for beginners, good enough for advanced riders to have fun on. 0-60 in like 3.7 seconds or something.

When that gets boring, go Ducati. Once you ride a v-twin all other bike motors, with their lack of character and engine braking will feel shitty.

Even tho i drive a racer, i am seriously thinking about this bike. It looks fun to go where ever you want. Plus, with good road tire, i'm pretty sure the handling is good

I bought my FZR to drive around town and go to school trough le Plateau and Outremont. My choice was more balancing between and scooter and a 250cc bike than a 250 vs a big bike. And the FZR250 is almost unique in Quebec, because jdm.

Even with dirt tires you'd be surprised.. I was able to seriously haul ass with pirelli's mt-21

It just feels "sloppy" compared to a super stable sport bike. I just let the bike do its thing.

It's true what everyone says about the SV650, good all purpose bike with good torque and "cheaper" plates. I was going to get one, but didn't like the riding position, I picked up a FZ6 instead.
