Pretty happy with my life situation right now.
I haven't had a "job" since 2007, that's when I decided I wanted to work for myself for many different reasons.
It has been a wild ride and I've had a lot of ups and downs (growing my income to awesome levels and then losing it all because "comfort zone").
My last job made me feel exactly how OP describes. Although I was working only 40 hours a week, I was so depressed that I didn't want to do anything else. I explained it as "not having time", but now I know it was just an excuse which I had to make because the job was sucking life out of me.
However, over the years I've learned a few important things that I keep in mind at all times.
1. Happiness doesn't come to you - you have to achieve it.
2. Success (whatever it means to you) doesn't come to you - you have to work for it.
3. You can achieve pretty much whatever you want, as long as you know WHY you want whatever you want.
4. Making a plan is super important. You can't just think: "I want to earn $10,000/month". You need to know the exact amount you need that would make your life comfortable.
For example: You want to live in a house that will cost you 2,500$ per month. You want to drive a car that will cost you $650 per month + $200 insurance. You will spend $700 on groceries, you will spend $400 on going out. You will spend $400 on shopping (clothes, etc). You want to save $1,000 per month... and you go in DETAIL to figure out the exact amounts. So let's say you end up with a figure of $6000 per month clean. Now add the taxes and let's say the total is $10,000 per month. So you set this as goal clearly knowing WHY you need this specific amount. That's where it really begins.
... and yes, don't forget that money is not the ultimate goal in life.
Just like with creating a better income or losing weight or quitting smoking - you need to start with little steps that will take you closer to your goal. Remember that there is no such thing as overnight success. Everything (including happiness) takes work, time and patience.
I could probably write a novel describing how I am moving towards my goals and why I am happy while doing so but if I could say one single thing it would be this:
YOU are the only person responsible for your happiness and your success. If things aren't going well - find out why. Create a goal. Know your WHY. Keep moving
