Getting home tonight I found a small side street with glare ice on the center tracks. I always drive off center to avoid the ice, but just for you guys I filmed a short vid of a few starts and stops while driving on the icy spots. Keep in mind the whole time I was driving on pure glare ice, the stuff that makes people coast through stop signs.
Car is an MK5 Jetta 2.5L FWD with open diff, bone stock
Tires: studded continental contiicecontact

There is some slip but the car stops and takes off on ice pretty damn well.
So two snow storms later what do you guys think of your tire selection?
The Hakka R2s are really good. Packed and fresh snow they feel absolutely solid in a straight line and sweeping bends. I'm slightly disappointed by their grip on take off and more so on sharp turns. That's said I must realize that it's FWD not AWD and I'm switching out from Michelin PSS summer tires which could take the same corners at 3 times the speed. I guess I just have to adjust.
I haven't tried them on the ice yet (thankfully, don't want that type of weather) but it's supposedly their best performing condition.
