Rudskoy said the Russian warplane did not violate Turkish airspace. Additionally, according to the Hmeymim airfield radar, it was the Turkish fighter jet that actually entered Syrian airspace as it attacked the Russian bomber.

The Turkish fighter jet made no attempts to contact Russian pilots before attacking the bomber, Rudskoy added.

“We assume the strike was carried out with a close range missile with an infra-red seeker,” Rudskoy said. “The Turkish jet made no attempts to communicate or establish visual contact with our crew that our equipment would have registered. The Su-24 was hit by a missile over Syria’s territory.”
 
German Vice-Chancellor Sigmar Gabriel called Turkish actions unpredictable.

“This incident shows for the first time that we are to dealing with an actor who is unpredictable according to statements from various parts of the region – that is not Russia, that is Turkey,” Gabriel said, as cited by DPA news agency. He added that Turkey was playing “a complicated role” in the Syrian conflict.

They don't need to make visual. They were guided there by ground controller. IFF system declared foe, bvr missle shot. Have a nice day

The distance crossed was not more than 3km, at the speed the bomber was flying it would take maximum 8-12 seconds to cross Turkish air spaces.. NOT 5 minutes. The pilot was NOT warned. Russian Authorities were not contacted.

The TURKISH jets ILLEGALLY flew into Syrian airspace to shut the SU-24 down which was unarmed. They shot him in the back.

Rentre-toi ça dans la tête: la vérité sur l'engagement n'a pas été révélée. À date, on a des déclarations de deux pays qui disent que c'est l'autre. Deux pays qui prennent habituellement beaucoup de liberté avec la vérité.

Without doing any research as to how turkey got into NATO, I'd guess for better control of the Mediterranean and the Bosphorus.

I think the only appropriate response from Russia without escalating the situation is that they will arm the Kurds in Iraq under the guise of helping the coalition fight ISIS, but in reality they'll inevitably end up in the hands of the PKK in Turkey.
