studded are good for icy road and thats it. blizzak will be better overall
The best tires on the market are factory studded winter tires. I HATE studless ice tires (especially Blizzaks) because it completely ruins the driving dynamics of your car, by essentially making it feel like you're driving on four marshmallows. Studdable tires like the ipike aren't that great to begin with, and aftermarket studs aren't that great either and don't last very long (or they fall off when driving).
Factory studded tires, like the Gislaved NordFrost 100, Continental ContiIceContact, or Nokian Hakka 8, are just way way better than anything else on the market. The tread compound is firmer than studless tires, so you have better steering response and feel. You get better dry-wet performance than cheaper snow tires like the ipike, and better snow-ice performance than studless tires.
It's the only way to go IMO.
